Rapid City Regional Hospital

Central Utilities Plant

This project was a major upgrade to the hospital's utilities and power plant. Construction included a new grounds building with a fenced yard, and a new Central Utility Plant (CUP) with a tunnel connecting it with the existing power plant. The tunnel is cast in place concrete 20' wide x 14' high x 500' long going partially under the existing building. The CUP is two stories and is built of site cast tilt up concrete panels. The project required extensive coordination of major mechanical & electrical systems, emergency power generators, coolers, cooling tower, water softeners, fire suppression system, fiber optic system, and communications.
